Here are some links to helpful resources and recommendations. Both the Lee and Collier County Animal Services Departments have websites with lots of useful information and they both shelter homeless animals. They seek to reunite strays with their owners and find forever homes for the others. This reference page also includes links to a number of non-profit animal rescues' websites. These rescues rely on volunteers and donations to operate; perhaps you will consider volunteering or donating goods, services and/or money to one or more of them. Finally, I've included several personal referrals for you to consider.
Lee County Department of Animal Services
Lee County Domestic Animal Services is an agency that deals with stray animals. The website gives you the opportunity to search for lost pets and adoptable animals, as well as pet care, pet safety, pet licensing, veterinary services, and volunteer opportunities.
Collier County Department of Animal Services
The mission of Collier County DAS is to ensure compliance with local and State animal-related laws, return strays to their owners and promote the adoption of homeless animals to new families, and work toward ending the community problem of pet overpopulation. DAS is Collier County's only open-admission public animal shelter.
HEAL (Haven On Earth Animal League)
Haven on Earth Animal League is a 501(c)3 no-kill rescue organization dedicated to providing tender care and permanent placement into loving homes for cats and dogs at risk of danger due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. HEAL supports the concept of a no-kill millennium by including the cost of spaying and neutering in the adoption fee.
Naples Cat Alliance
Naples Cat Alliance is a group of dedicated volunteers carrying out TNR, cat rescue and adoptions. NCA does not receive government funding and relies solely on private donations. Every dollar goes directly to the life-saving operations of this 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization.
Brigid's Crossing is a unique, non-profit, cat rescue & holistic sanctuary in Naples. They are a no-cage, no-kill, nature-oriented center focused on the rescue, adoption, lifetime and hospice care of homeless, sick and abandoned animals.
Gulf Coast Humane Society
Gulf Coast Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, no-kill, animal welfare organization established as the first non-profit animal welfare organization in southwest Florida in 1947. Relying solely on donations, grants, bequests and fundraising events, their mission is caring for the neglected and abandoned pets of Southwest Florida. As a no-kill facility, these pets remain in their care until they find their forever home.
Humane Society Naples
Humane Society Naples is an independent nonprofit serving the public by providing care, shelter and placement into loving homes for orphaned animals in the Collier County area through pet adoptions. They promote responsible pet ownership through education, legislation and sterilization. The HSN Veterinary Clinic offers a low or no-cost pet sterilization for low-income pet parents.
Estero Animal Hospital - veterinary practice
I personally recommend Estero Animal Hospital, located at 9550 Corkscrew Road, between 41 and Three Oaks Parkway. My cats see Dr. Larry. From the moment you meet him, you know he loves cats! The office and technician staff are top notch too!
Florida Veterinary Referral Center & 24-Hour Emergency Hospital
FLVRC offers both emergency services and veterinary specialists. Doctors are available 24/7/365. I had the unfortunate experience of one of my cats having an emergency on Easter Sunday, so my regular vet's office was closed, so I rushed him to FLVRC. The diagnosis resulted in letting him go that day, but I found the emergency doctor to be professional and compassionate, doing all she could to be supportive with this difficult decision.
Chewy - online pet products
You can purchase all your cat's needs online at Chewy. They have excellent prices, free 1-2 day shipping on orders over $49, and if you sign up for autoship for your regular purchases, you receive an additional discount. Even more importantly, their customer service is second to none! If you need to return an item for pretty much any reason, it's typical that Chewy will credit you and, instead of sending the item back to them, they suggest you donate it to a local shelter.
Reference - Adoptions
Petfinder is an online, searchable database of animals who need homes. It is also a directory of nearly 11,000 animal shelters and adoption organizations across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Organizations maintain their own home pages and available-pet databases.
ASPCA Animal Posion Control
The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) is a resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you think your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, call (888) 426-4435. A $65 consultation fee may be applied to your credit card. Check out their website for valuable information on poisonous substances including plants, human foods, human medications and more.
